This is the action that gets triggered by the task. Further tweaking can be made by setting the parameters in the advanced settings section. This means the task will be triggered during the startup of the system. We will configure the trigger details in this section. Click on New and create a trigger as explained in the next step. We need to create a new Trigger for this task. Trigger is basically the parameter that tells the system when to trigger this action. Start create the task by filling the following details in the General section. Select Create Task option to create a new task. Once you open the Task Scheduler, you can see several options. Search for Task Scheduler and Open the Task Scheduler My operating system was Windows 10 (The same steps will work in all the recent versions of windows) I created a task in the windows task scheduler. Here is the steps that I followed to achieve this. So if someone turns off the desktop, during reboot, the vpn needs to be autoconnected so that I can access it from my network without any assistance from others. The desktop will be accessible only through my vpn. I have a desktop server which is located remotely and I want to access it from my laptop. Sometimes we may came across situations in which we need to enable vpn auto connect on the system boot. Again, this is very viral in nature.Generally we establish VPN connection using OpenVPN using the connect option present in GUI application. Once this happens and the suer reboots, the client start on logon even though the registy entry is incorrect. Well, that worked until a user manully starts the client and connects to the VPN. We figured that if we modify this above registry entry to reference vpn.exe instead of vpnui.exe, the client would not start on boot because vpn.exe doesn't exist in the file system structure. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco\Cisco An圜onnect Secure Mobility Client\vpnui.exe" -autolaunched There is a registry key with the following value. One othter thing we tested was modifying the registy key at HKLM\Software\Wow64Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. When you uncheck the Cisco An圜onnect client, it just adds a new entry and keeps starting on boot. Make sure you do extensive testing before you roll out this version. We deployed this version to position ourselves for Windows 8 compaitbility. The only option that worked across all OS platforms was to rename the application executable. Taking control away from the administrator to decide whether or not to run an application is a terrible idea.įYI: In version 6, using the msconfig option doesn't work and neither does editing the registry. If you rename it to vpn.exe, the An圜onnect client stops loading on boot. The effect of this is that the registry is looking for a file called vpnui.exe. We worked around this by creating a custom batch script that is being deployed to tens of thousands of users that renames the vpnui.exe file to vpn.exe. Once the application deveolpers take away control from the user/administrator to decide whether their application should run at start up and take up valueable system resources that might be needed elsewhere, the developes of said application have basically created a virus. I am not at liberty to go into detail in this forum as to why. We are experiencing this issue and it's cause extreme negative effects to our users. I don't accept the answer that this is part of the An圜onnect evolution. I just saw this thread and thouhgt I would chime in here.
